PM Modi launches development projects worth over Rs 1500 crore in Odisha

On  January 15 2019, Narendra Modi Visited Odisha and launched numerous projects worth over 1500 crore at Balangir, a district in Odisha.

The project is dedicated for electrifying Sambalpur-Angul and Jharsuguda-Vizianagaram lines extending 813 kilometres to the nation. A sum of Rs 1000 crore will be spent for electrifying railway lines. Prime minister also inaugurated the doubling of Balangir-Deogaon and Barpali-Dungaripali railway lines in the state.          

World’s largest religious and cultural human congregation: Maha Kumbh Mela begins in UP

Kumbh Mela, which is considered as the world’s largest religious and cultural human congregation began at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on January 15, 2019 and will continue till March 4, 2019.

The convergence of three rivers – Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati, known as the SANGAM, is where the 7-week occasion began with the holy dip. Sheers and saints from different Akharas started the first bathing. Over 2 crore tourists and devotees are expected to visit Prayagraj during the stated by the UP Government.

Global Aviation Summit 2019 begins in Mumbai

On January 15, 2019, The Union Minister of Civil Aviation; Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Global Aviation Summit 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The summit will primarily focus on the snags faced in the aviation sector.

Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airport Authority of India (AAI) in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has played the key role in organizing the two-day summit.

Puducherry to ban single-use plastic from March 1

The government of Puducherry has decided to impose prohibition on the production, sale and use of single-use plastic products in the Union Territory from 1st march of this year. On January 13, 2019, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy announced the decision after a cabinet meeting.

V Narayanasamy said that, the decision has been taken to gift a plastic-free Puducherry to the future generation and to restraint the circulation of plastic in the larger interest of the environment. A huge campaign will be launched to create awareness among the merchants and the public on the importance of this move, he added. 

10% reservation for economically weak in general category comes into force 

On January 14, 2019, 103rd Amendment Act, 2019 of the constitution, the Act providing 10 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of General Category came into effect.

The move came after the Union Government used its powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the 103rd Amendment Act, 2019 of the constitution and appointed January 14, 2019 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force.
