7 Strategic Steps for Success in UPSC IAS Examination

To qualify in a highly competitive examination like UPSC IAS, where success rate is very low, one has to follow a well-planned guideline and few mantras with perseverance. If one can follow the below mentioned strategic points, then he/she can certainly qualify this examination.

These strategies are well thought, derived & summarised from the guidance provided by the successful candidates every year.

Step-1
The first and foremost thing is, the aspirant has to be personally motivated and determined enough to become an IAS Officer. The sole motto of the aspirant has to be focused to become an IAS Officer.

Step-2
The aspirants should be thorough enough about the examination details such as the stages of examination, syllabus, pattern of examination, cut off marks for all the stages etc.

Step-4
Now, the aspirant should develop a study plan meticulously and rationally, keeping in view his/her other engagements, availability of time, ability to sit and study. It is good if it is unique as far as possible.

Step-5
Now, the aspirant should collect essential books and study material. Here one of the most important part is, usually aspirants get involved with multiple sources and start collecting material from different sources, but finally accumulating and creating a library of books but confusing among them which one to focus and which one to not. Now here is the trick to understand, the basic content would be always same which one need to thorough enough from any one/two standard book. We suggest first preference of the student should go to the thorough study and digestion of NCERT Class 6-12 of all Major five subjects viz: History, Geography & Environment, Indian Polity, Science & Economics. It would create a strong pillar in basics in almost all subjects. Post this, student can go for other reference books for advanced studies. But remember, again, you need to concise your sources as much as possible.

Step-6
Now the most important part is how to study??? Here our strategy given as below.

  • First cover NCERT on all available subjects
  • Then go for respective reference book & current affairs for advanced study on the subjects
  • Go for Question & Answer Practice from the available all previous year UPSC questions. Both Objective & Subjective.
  • After which write essays on each and every topic you read, understood & one Q&A Exercises.
  • Post completion of all the subjects and topics, appear Mock Tests as much as possible to get a deeper insight into UPSC question pattern and how to decode it sitting in an exam like environment.

Step-7
The last, but not the least, please focus your attention only in the preparation, and maintain consistency of involvement in study and definitely by the end of a year you would be in a position to attend all the questions of UPSC & probably decode it very easily and can qualify to the final list.
