OPSC OAS Examination 2022-Syllabus and Pattern

The notification for OPSC OAS Examinations was released in December 2022 to fill up almost 683 vacant posts in the State. The Form Fill up for the same will be starting from 17th January 2023 and the Preliminary Exam is scheduled to be conducted in September later this year as per the official OPSC Calendar. Odisha Public Service Commission conducts Odisha civil service examination to recruit candidates for state services. The candidates are recruited for Group A and Group B services of state government. The various positions of the general administration and police officers are filled by this very examination.

The OPSC OAS Examination is conducted in 3-stages namely:
  • 1. OPSC Preliminary Examination
  • 2. OPSC Mains/Written Examination
  • 3. Personality Test

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is of objective type consisting of two papers of 200 marks each with a negative marking of 33% or 0.66 marks for each wrong answer.

  • Paper 1 – The paper consists of questions from General Studies including History, Geography, Polity, Economy, General Science, Environment and Current Affairs of national and international importance.
  • Paper 2 – The paper consists of aptitude based questions including mathematics, reasoning and aptitude English. It is qualifying in nature where the aspirants will only require obtaining 33% of the total marks.

Mains/Written Examination

After qualifying the prelims exam with the required cutoff, next comes the Mains Examination. The Written Examination shall comprise of 2 parts i.e. Part 1 and Part 2 consisting of the following papers:

Paper I - Odia Language

The Pattern of Questions shall be broadly as follows:

  • Comprehension of given passages
  • Precis Writing
  • Usage and Vocabulary
  • Short Essays
  • Translation from English to Odia Language and Vice Versa

Personality Test

The selected candidates after the Mains Written Examination will be interviewed by a Board constituted by the OPSC who will have before them a record of his career. He shall be asked questions on matters of general interest. The objective of the Interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public services. The test is intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate, his intellectual qualities as well as social traits and his interests in current affairs.

The Interview Test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge which has been already tested through the written papers. The candidate is expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic studies but also the events which are happening around them both national and international.
