Second Scorpene Class Submarine INS Khanderi to be inducted soon in Indian Navy

The second of the 6 Scorpene Class Submarines, INS Khanderi, will be inducted by May 2019 into the Indian Navy.

On January 12, 2017, this Scorpene Class Submarine was launched in Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai. INS Khanderi has been undergoing tests and trials.

  • The Submarine has got superior stealth features, which is expected to provide it imperviousness in sea.
  • The INS Khanderi is a Scorpene Class Submarine and a part of Project 75 of Indian Navy.
  • It is equipped to commence varied types of missions, such as: anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering and area surveillance and mine lying.

India to host U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020: FIFA

On March 15, 2019, the President of International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino announced that the U-17 Women’s World cup will be hosted by India in 2020.

The news was announced during the FIFA Council meeting in Miami, USA. The coming World Cup in 2020 will be the seventh edition of the U-17 Women’s tournament.

  • In the year 2018, the bidding process had started for U-17 Women’s World cup, to which India had bid along with France.
  • Along with U-17 Women’s WC, Indian expresses interest to host U-20 Women’s World Cup.

India, Maldives sign three agreements

India and Maldives signed three pacts for development cooperation and renewable energy, visa facilitation for diplomatic and official passport holders. This was made possible by an extensive discussion between Foreign Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during her visit to tropical island nation. .

Pacts are as follows

  • Visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and official passports exemption.
  • A MoU was signed to Indian grant assistance for implementation of high impact community development projects through local bodies.
  • A MoU was signed for collaboration in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy.


IIT, IISc collaborate on Climate Change Initiative

Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Guwahati and Mandi and come together to develop a ‘Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for the Indian Himalayan Region Using a Common Framework.’

  • 12 Indian Himalayan region (IHR) states will be covered for the assessment exercise using a common framework.
  • IIT Mandi’s has revealed varied research projects that are targeted to address the extreme and hazardous events in the Himalayan Region of India.
