RBI issues Guidelines to prevent market abuse
On March 15, 2019, The Reserve Bank of India issued the Reserve Bank of India Directions, 2019 for Prevention of Market Abuse. The guidelines are aimed at averting mistreatment of financial instruments’ price-sensitive information by participants in markets.
Directions are as follows
- Participants in markets should not involve in market manipulation.
- Participants in markets should not undertake transactions on an Electronic Trading Platform.
- Participants in markets should not manipulate calculation of a benchmark rate.
- Participants in markets should not use price-sensitive information for benefit.
- Participants in markets should report to bank about any market abuse
- Participants in markets committing abuse will be barred from the markets.
Lok Sabha Election 2019: Registration of political parties under Section 29A of RPA, 1951
The Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the timetable of Lok Sabha Election 2019 and state assembly election of Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh on March 10, 2019.
The Election Commission offered one time relaxation and reduced the time to submit application from 30 days to 7 days for the parties who have already published their public notice by March 10, 2019, the date of statement of election schedule.
Henceforward, if any person has any complaint about the registration of any political party, a statement of objection or complaint can be filed by him or her by March 17, 2019.
UN Environment’s sixth Global Environment Outlook released
The sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook (2019) has been released by The United Nation Environment Program (UNEP). The Outlook is titled ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’.
“The pressing environmental issues will be addressed as soon as possible by the decision makers to attain internationally agreed environment goals and Sustainable Development Goals.” stated in the Outlook Report.
SC sets aside life ban imposed on Sreesanth
On March 15, 2019, the apex court reserved the decision of life ban imposed on cricketer S Sreesanth by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), for his involvement in spot-fixing during 2013 Indian Premier League.
A two-judge bench, comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph delivered the judgment. However, the bench partly allowed the appeal by the cricketer to lift the ban and directed BCCI’s disciplinary committee to decide his quantum of punishment within the next 3 months.
