Indian-American Thomas Kurian To Head Google Cloud
Grabbing one of the most significant roles in tech arena, Thomas Kurian has been announced as the head of the cloud division at Google, he is currently the president of Product Development at Oracle Corporation.
Thomas Kurian will start from November 26th in Google “replacing Diane Greene” and will be taking over the role of Vice-president for Google cloud division in 2019. Until then Greene will act as the CEO of Google’s cloud division.
Now acting as a board member of the Alphabet Inc, Diane Greene had started in Google in the year of 2015. At the age of 21, she won the national women’s dinghy championship in 1976. Kurian will be the senior vice-president while Greene will act as the CEO, said a Spokesperson of the company.
Kurian has worked over 22 years at the Oracle and has been a close friend of Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle Corporation.
Hailing from Bengaluru, Kurian supposedly decided to quit Oracle due to incongruities with the executive chairman, Larry Ellison about the cloud business being the future of the company as cloud is said to be the most competitive and lucrative business these days. Geroge Kurian , twin brother of Thomas Kurian is the CEO of a Hybrid Cloud data services and data management company, based in California, named NetApp.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, while greeting Kurian said, “We’re really enthusiastic to welcome Thomas, whose product vision, customer focus, and deep expertise will be a huge asset to our growing Cloud business.”
