65th National Film Award to be held next month

On 13th April 2018, A Jury headed by revered filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor announced the date of 65th National Film Awards.

The jury consists of many renowned people from the Indian film fraternity, such as: lyricist Mehboob, screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain , South Indian actress Gautami Taddimala, Kannada director P Sheshadri, Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary , Ranjit Das, Rumi Jaffery, Rajesh Mapuskar and Tripurari Sharma.

The award ceremony will be held on 3rd May 2018 and awards will be given by President Ram Nath Kovind.

FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking – Germany Tops

April 2018 FIFA World Ranking has positioned current world champions. Germany leads in spite of the defeat and draw in the month of March.  

Germany had drawn 0-0 with Spain while lost to Brazil with 1-0. With 1533 points Germany still tops the list pushing Brazil to 2nd, Belgium to 3rd, Portugal to 4th and Argentina to 5th position.

Common Wealth Games 2018 – The Updates  

  • On 10th day Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in Javelin Throw – Becomes the First Indian to do so.
  • Indian shooters added two gold and one silver to India’s medal bag.
  • To take the flag further, Bajrang Punia won gold in the wrestling 65 kg category
  • Mausam Khatri won Silver in 97 kg freestyle.

Amnesty report says Indian court has ordered a total number of 109 death sentences in 2017   

Indian court has ordered a total number of 109 death sentences in 2017 says Amnesty International’s global report ‘Death Sentences and Executions’, with the report released in April 12, 2018. But to the surprise, no executions were carried out in the earlier year.

The report also states that the number has been decreased as compared to previous year as in 2016 the death sentence orders by the court was 136.

Use of AI to detect Diabetic Eye Problem: US Approves the Device   

On April 12, 2018, United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved an artificial intelligence device that can accurately identify diabetic eye problems, which will allow the doctors to detect the same without any intricate examination procedures.

Named as ‘IDx-DR’, the device makes use of artificial intelligence and carefully written algorithm to examine the images of the eye, captured by a high end camera named Topcon NW400.  ‘IDx-DR’ software works with cloud server and stores the images of the eye for further examination and to provide an accurate result.
