Third Indo-German Environment Forum held in New Delhi

The third Indo-German Environment Forumwas held in New Delhi on February 13, 2019 with the theme “Cleaner Air, Greener Economy”.

Union Environment Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, while inaugurating the forum, said both the countries have been in deep rooted relation of cooperative engagement for the last 60 years in the varied fields, such as  climate change adaptation, natural resource management, innovative green technologies and urban environment protection.

Union Cabinet approves Introduction of Registration of Marriage of NRI Bill, 2019

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Union Cabinet approved the introduction of Registration of Marriage of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Bill on February 13, 2019 to create more answerability to Indian citizens living abroad.  The bill will act a wall of protection for Indian men and women who are being exploited by their NRI partners.

After the bill’s passing, the essential changes would be carried out in the Passports Act, 1967 and Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 by insertion of Section 86A.

US House passes a resolution to withdraw US military support in Yemen

On February 13, 2019, The US House of Representatives passed a resolution to end US support for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in the war in Yemen.

The resolution to reportedly direct the US President to withdraw US military forces in or “affecting” Yemen within 30 days if not they are fighting al Qaeda or related forces. It is the first time the House of Representatives has ever reinforced a war powers resolution.

Cabinet approves continuation of Centre’s tribal welfare schemes

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its authorization for perpetuation of sub-schemes under Umbrella programme with an outlay of Rs 11,900 crore for growth of Scheduled Tribes from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2020 .

The permitted schemes comprise ashram schools, pre-matric scholarship, post matric scholarship, boys & girls hostels, monitoring and evaluation, vocational training, tribal festivals, tribal research, information and mass education and assistance to charitable organization working for the wellbeing of scheduled tribes.
